NEC FC emerged victorious over Maroons with a 2-0 win in the Startimes Uganda Premier League match in a thrilling encounter at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

The game witnessed an intense first half, with NEC FC taking the lead through goals from Joseph Dhata and Allan Mugalu.

Dhata’s strike from the penalty spot at the 22nd-minute mark set the tone for NEC FC’s dominance.

Mugalu then doubled the lead with a well-timed finish, courtesy of an assist from Brian Kayanja, just before halftime.

Despite Maroons’ efforts to stage a comeback, NEC FC’s solid defense, led by Ibrahim Kiyemba, kept them at bay.

Fred Amaku’s attempts were consistently thwarted, and Maroons struggled to break through NEC FC’s defense line.

The second half saw NEC FC continue their attacking momentum, with Kayanja coming close to extending the lead.

However, Maroons goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan denied several scoring opportunities, including Abel Etrude’s effort off a Frederick Kigozi cross.

Maroons fought hard to salvage a goal, with substitute Marvin Kavuma’s attempt hitting the side netting.

Isaac Mpagi managed to pull one back for Maroons in the 90th minute, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the match.

With this victory, NEC FC climbed to third position on the league table, securing 37 points from 21 games. Maroons FC, on the other hand, remains with 31 points.
