Mbarara City recorded a dominant 5-0 win against struggling Jinja-based side Gaddafi at the Kakyeka stadium in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) match played on Wednesday.

The Ankole Lions linednup with the exact starting XI, unchanged from last week’s team that 1-1 draw with Bright Stars.

At Kakyeka, Sadat Nsubuga broke the deadlock so early in the game, as he scored within the very first minute after kickoff to put the home side ahead.

Captain Joseph Akandwanaho doubled Mbarara City’s lead at the stroke of half time to ensure that the home side went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Second half substitute Pius Wanji scored just minutes after coming on to make it 3-0 for Mbarara City within an hour.

Another second half substitute Benson Muhindo joined the party, scoring Mbarara City’s fourth in the 78th minute before Wanji completed his brace in the 80th minute to make it 5-0 in favor of the Ankole Lions.

Mbarara City’s convincing victory at Kakyeka was very important for them, as the Ankole Lions now move to 27 points, misplacing KCCA (26) from 9th position on the table.

For Gaddafi, the result keeps them in candidacy for relegation this term, as they have now already lost 12 games, won only five and drawn three to sit 13th on the 16-team table.

The Soldier Boys have accumulated just 18 points from 20 games. That’s just two points and a place above the red line, as 14th placed UPDF have 16 points.
