All Set For Girls Schools Cricket Week

Starting Sunday, May 5 up until Saturday, May 11, the 22nd edition of the Girls’ School’s Cricket Week will take center stage.

The competition will for the second time be hosted by Soroti Cricket Academy, and it will feature sixteen teams including record winners Jinja SS and holders Olila High School.

Olila who beat neighbours Light SS by 5 wickets last year to retain the trophy will be seeking to make history. Jinja SS hold the bragging rights as the school with most titles (eight), but Olila will be seeking to become the first team to win four in a row.

The Soroti side has won each of the editions since 2019 barring 2020 and 2021 when the competition was not held due to covid.

With some exciting talent including team captain Jimia Mohammed, all-rounders Asumin Akurut and Immaculate Nandera to their disposal, the side will head into the competition as favourites.

But they will have stiff competition from especially last year’s losing finalists and Jinja SS who will be looking to regain supremacy.

Jinja SS haven’t won this trophy since 2018 when their three year winning streak got halted by Olila. They will be hoping to stop Olila’s dominance when the tournament starts on Sunday.

Gayaza High School sat out the competition last year due to “lack of transportation to the ground”, but they return in this edition hoping to win a first title in thirteen years. With four trophies to their name, Gayaza have the second most trophies, but they have not set hands on one since 2011.

The schools like last year will reside at St. Mary’s Girls SS, Madera for the duration of the tournament.
