Cricket Cranes Squad For T20 World Cup Named

Uganda Cricket Association has announced the Cricket Cranes squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States.

The squad of fifteen includes a blend of youngsters and seasoned players with the opening bowling pair of Juma Miyaji and Cosmas Kyewuta, and opening batter Robinson Obuya all making the cut.

While the trio make the historic squad, there’s no place for wicketkeeper Cyrus Kakuru. Kakuru who played at the 2022 U19 World Cup with the Baby Cricket Cranes has been a mainstay in the national team since his debut last year, but Fred Achelam has been opted for in his place.

Youngster Ronald Lutaya doesn’t make the 15, but he is one of the travelling reserves for team. Lutaya alongside Innocent Mwebaze will travel with the team as reserves.

The Cricket Cranes currently in Sri Lanka for a preparational camp will debut at the World Cup come June. The Cranes earned their ticket to the global showpiece last year in November when they beat among others Zimbabwe to earn one of the two slots at the qualifiers.

They will come face to face with the co-hosts West Indies, PNG, Afghanistan and New Zealand as they are placed in Group C.
