Three Referees Suspended Following Controversial Calls

The FUFA Disciplinary Panel has announced the suspension of three referees, William Oloya, Stephen Kimayo, and Samuel Mbabali, for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

The action follows a series of mistakes decisions made during recent matches, the body has said.

The suspension of Kimayo, who served as the center referee, and Mbabali, the second assistant referee, stems from their involvement in the game between NEC FC and Kitara FC at Lugogo on April 4th, 2024.

A contentious moment arose when Cromwell Rwothomio scored the match’s sole goal, with the ball allegedly going out of play before finding the net.

Despite Kitara’s protests, the goal stood, prompting further debate.

Moreover, Kimayo’s failure to send off last-man Jasper Aheebwa after a potentially game-changing foul in the same match, added to the controversy.

Similarly, Mbabali’s incorrect offside call in the 88th minute of the same match against Kitara’s George Ssenkaaba further fueled dissatisfaction with officiating standards.

Meanwhile, referee Oloya’s suspension relates to the match between SC Villa and Mbarara City FC held on March 30th, 2024, at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Despite SC Villa’s 2-1 victory, the game was marred by contentious decisions, notably the failure to award a penalty to Mbarara City after a clear challenge by Juma Ramathan inside the box went unnoticed.
