A section of Members of Parliament have been left baffled by rate and manner in which household names on the Uganda Cranes team are retiring.
The retiring craze began with Cranes assistant captain Hassan Wasswa followed by Skipper Denis Onyango and then midfielder Mike Azira.
It’s however Onyango’s decision that caught the attention on of many Ugandans on reflection on the pivotal role has played on the Cranes team over the years.
And while State Minister for Sports Hamson Denis Obua appeared before the parliamentary committee on education and Sports on Thursday, pertinent on the questions he was quizzed about was the manner in which the foresaid players were retiring.
“In sports, We talk about retirement. We thank them for their illustrious careers”, Obua said.
Obua’s submission was interjected by Busia MP Geoffrey Macho and Opolot County who asked him to throw more light on the topic.
Macho said the players are turning their gaze away from the national team because of poor management.
Opolot, who chaired the committee claimed that the issue should be treated as a matter of much interest because the government invests Shs 10 billions in the national team.
Janet Museveni to honour Denis Onyango
Jason Obua further revaled that Minister Janet Museveni will honour the 35 Year old custodian whose career on the senior national team spans to 16 years.
“Onyango has been the most disciplined player. Denis will be honoured soon by the Minister of Education and Sports. He has had an illustrious career. I am happy that parliament will also honour him.” Obua remarked.
