Preview – Red Eagles Hunt For League And Cup Double Sees KCCA Visit Wankulukuku

Express FC have been the surprise package in Uganda football this season and continue to impress.

The Red Eagles who have struggled in the last few years are on course to winning a league and cup double this campaign.

Wasswa Bbosa’s side currently sit top of the Uganda Premier league courtesy of a one-point lead with just four games to play.

They are also in the quarter final of the cup where they will host KCCA in the first leg at Wankulukuku on Wednesday.

They come into the game in good form having won their last five games.

The 10-time joint record cup winners have be magnificent at both ends of the pitch in that period, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three.

Ahead of the game, Bbosa says they are ready but noted the respect they have for KCCA.

“The league break is here but we have the Uganda cup to play. We have been preparing for KCCA, they are one of the clubs who have dominated the cup because they have the same number of cup titles like us. They are also a decent team with good players and coaches. Many think it is going to be an easy game but it won’t. However, we have prepared the boys well and they are aware we must win our home games but most importantly need to win the first leg for motivation into the second.” Bbosa said.

KCCA have indeed been dominant in the cup especially in the last few years.

The Kasasiro Boys have won two of the past three competitions but will go into Wednesday’s game as underdogs after a turn of events has seen them struggle.

They have seen several key players move on in search of greener pastures and a serial winner in manager Mike Mutebi depart and replaced by Morley Byekwaso.

Byekwaso has had an average start to his tenure as head coach, overseeing indifferent results since his appointment.

However, he has been lethal in the cup, winning all four of his contest.

The game against Express is another test for how far KCCA have progressed under Byekwaso but no one will skin them even if they lose on Wednesday, considering that Express are arguably the best side in the country at the moment.

Match Stats

This will be the 24th meeting between the two sides since December 2010.

In the past 23 match-ups, KCCA have triumphed on nine occasions, Express four with the other 10 all ending in draws.

KCCA are currently on a four-match unbeaten run against Express FC including a 1-1 draw when the two sides met earlier this season.
