Uganda’s sole representatives at the inaugural CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, Lady Doves, will be aiming at progression to the tournament finals when they lockhorns with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WFC.

The two sides will meet for the very first time, in a game that means the world to both parties, especially regarding their quest to dominate the women game on the continent.

The semi-final game will be hosted at Nyayo National stadium, Nairobi Kenya on Monday September 6th.

To get to this level, the reigning Uganda Super League champions played out a convincing group stage campaign that saw them finish second in Group A, tied on equal points with the leaders Simba Lions but with the only difference being goal difference.

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WTC on the other hand convincingly topped Group B, amassing a maximum of three points in all their respective games played at the tournament.

Assistant head coach Rajab Buyinza didn’t seem oblivious to the kind of threat that the opposition promises to pose as he addressed the media in a press conference:

“We are aware of the kind of threat the opposition brings with them but we are ready for it, all players are in good shape and we shall lay down the best strategy to make ourselves and Uganda proud.” He promised.

He would continue to say: “I expect them to play their way and so shall we. The team knows how to encounter these opponents so as to find victory. This being a knock out game implies that we need to take chances as they come.

“We are ready for tomorrow’s game, everyone in camp is in a good mood. We expect maximum points and there will be a lot of working together, determination, and following the coaching team’s instructions to the latter so as to come up with good results.” Team captain Daisy Nakaziro stated to the media.

She also needed no invitation to speak about the challenges that come with the contest and the level of competition the opposition brings to the table.

“The opponents are good but we are good as well. We shall most importantly need the hardwork if we are to achieve the best of results from the game.” She added.

This being a knockout stage, Lady Doves will need nothing but victory to storm the finals and will therefore call upon their ever so present sharpshooter Fazila Ikwaput-who has already scored three goals at the tournament.

For perspective, it is also important to know that the Believers come up against a high scoring side who have already bagged 24 goals at the group stages.

As a requirement therefore, the Masindi based side will need to keep an eye on Loza Abela and Medina Awol Busser-who seem to have earned the sharpshooter reputation with 19 goals amongst themselves.

It is important to also note that the eventual champions of this championship will earn a direct qualification to the inaugural CAF Women Champions league to be held in Egypt later this year.

In the event that the Believers advance from this stage and win the tournament, they will become the first ever Ladies team to represent the country at the Maiden CAF Women Champions league.
