Youngster Oscar Mawa was sent off in SC Villa’s loss against BUL FC in a rescheduled Uganda Premier League game at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
Referee Mashood Ssali showed a straight red card to Mawa for a high boot tackle on Aggrey Madoi in the 40th minute with Villa already down by Musa Esenu’s 22nd minute strike.
Esenu, who scored a brace, got the first when he planted a brilliant header far away from goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige’s reach after a well weighed cross from Hillary Onek.
The former KCCA FC forward who also scored against Villa in both league games last season, got his brace at the stroke of halftime with a right-footed effort.
BUL bossed the game in the second stanza but SC Villa improved late in the game. Isaac Ogwang, off the bench, was put through by Kenneth Ssemakula to beat Saidi Keni before slotting in an unguarded net in the 83rd minute.
Substitute Goffin Oyirwoth arrived late to miss a searching cross from Saddam Maseruka as Villa surged forward for a late equaliser.
BUL FC, despite having a numerical advantage, lived dangerously in the last moments of the game but held on to pick a stunning win.
It was an abysmal performance for the Jogoos who came into the game on the back of a draw against defending champions Express FC at Wankulukuku.
It was the first game Villa hosted at Njeru, and the artificial turf somehow affected their game flow.
The carpet surely affected the Jogoos who were forced into an early substitution when Ali Bayo was taken off hurt for Ronald Ssekiganda early into the game.
And Ssekiganda misplaced a couple of passes before he was also taken off in the second half.
The lanky midfielder was in a better position to level matters but skewed his header over the bar after a good delivery from Fred Agandu.
There was less to admire from Villa who looked clueless in extended stretches. Youngster Travis Mutyaba was denied pocket of spaces to run into and his only effort on goal was wide off the mark.
Defender Gavin Kizito was reckless at the back and almost gave away a goal when he was robbed of possession only for Ibrahim Nsimbe to volley over the bar.
Joseph Ssemujju was a threat on the right flank and danced through Villa’s defence with ease while Esenu had an acrobatic kick over the bar as BUL exerted authority.
There was ugly scenes towards the end of the first half when some rowdy SC Villa fans tried to attack the BUL FC Technical area but there efforts were denied by the ring fence.
Villa remain on four points from as many games while BUL move to third with 13 points.
What Next – SC Villa host Onduparaka on November 26 while BUL will be at home to welcome Gaddafi FC in a Jinja Derby on November 28.
