SC Villa coach Petros Koukouras blamed poor preparations for their loss to Vipers on Wednesday.
The Jogoos were second best in a 3-0 loss in a rescheduled league game at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Koukouras cut a distraught figure in the aftermatch Press Conference and blamed the club hierarchy for not doing enough.
“We came with a lot of problems here,” Koukouras said. “We even had 16 players available for the game.”
Nicholas Kabonge and Coach Phillip Ssozi were suspended prior to the game for late arrival while the club is contemplating on letting goalkeeping coach Mubarak Kiberu leave due to his busy schedule with the Women National team, per reports.
Cesar Manzoki scored a brace in the second half while Yunus Sentamu had put the Venoms in the lead.
Villa had some good spells especially in the first half but could not sustain their attacks in a game they also had two penalty appeals turned down.
“I think some of the boys tried their best but best is not enough sometimes,” Koukouras added. “The only lesson we learnt is that we need to keep trying and trying harder.”
“We had some chances, unfortunately their (Vipers) three chances all went in and we could not convert even one of ours into a goal.”
On officiating, Koukouras added: “Since the beginning of the season, I have decided not to talk about the officiating. You saw what happened on the pitch. I have nothing to add.”
The coach was also furious that the side have failed to beef up the young squad.
“This is a young squad, we had a chance to change things (in the transfer) unfortunately we couldn’t. So the struggle will continue throughout the season.
“Signing players – That’s not up to me, I made some suggestions in transfers, I was waiting for some transfers and I did personal contact with the people in charge but I am not the one to make the final decision.
“We talked about it before, but now the window is closed so we have to use the young team and we have to continue like this throughout the season. We cannot change anything right now. we are waiting for some players to finalise with their registration and we are hoping that things turn out rightly.
“But we should not expect anything amazing at least until the end of the season. How do you expect to survive or compete in the season, other teams have beefed up their squad and we haven’t. Today we had only four available defenders. That was all, if any got injured, we would have not had a right replacement. So this might be the case and we have to carry on.”
It remains to be seen if Villa managed to register Saddam Juma, Bernard Agele and Shafic Bakaki before the window closed.
