Commonwealth: Tukamuhebwa Reaches Quarterfinals

Uganda’s chances of winning a boxing medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have received a boost.

This is after Bombers Captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa sailed through to the quarter finals of his light Welterweight category.

Tukamuhebwa beat Billy Polkinghorn of Australia by split decision at Hall Four at the national Exhibition Center.

He will now face off with Canadian Wyatt Sanford for a place in the semis, which is a medal bracket.

Tukamuhebwa, after a shaky start, regained his composure and showcased good combination shots to convince the judges thereafter.

Tukamuhebwa will return to action on Wednesday

It’s his second win after beating Northern Irish John Paul Hale at the round of 32.

But as Tukamuhebwa’s journey continues, Yusuf Nkobeza was ejected by Englishman Lewis Richardson through a split decision to win a highly entertaining middleweight contest.

Still to come for the bombers is Owen Kibira and the history making first ever Ugandan Female Teddy Nakimuli at Commonwealth.
