FUBA Competition Council has released the fixture for the 2023 NBL first round.

The season will finally tip-off this Friday, March 17, after a week-long delay due to said works at Indoor Arena in Lugogo as earlier communicated by NCS.

The first round will end on May 23, 2023 after all teams have faced each other in a round robin format before the second round gets underway.

In Friday’s epic openers, Eight-time champions City Oilers face KIU Titans while in the Women’s division, defending Champions UCU Lady Canons and JKL Lady Dolphins meet in a repeat of last year’s final.

The Titans have fronted themselves as the new challengers to Oilers throne after marquee signings include last season’s regular season best player Amisi ‘Carmelo’ Saidi.

On Saturday, there will be a repeat of Women Division One final as star-studded Champions JT Lady Jaguars face off with Kampala University in an early tip-off encounter.

A1 Challenge and Nkumba Lady Marines who were reinstated, after relegation last season, will meet at midday.

The newcomers in the division; Rezlife Saints will play Power on Saturday while Kampala Rockets will start their journey in top flight with City Oilers on Sunday.

Fans-favourite Namuwongo Blazers, beaten finalists last season, will not be in action in the opening week. The same can be said of UCU Canons and UPDF Tomahawks.

Abja Parks in Naalya (home for Nam Blazers), has replaced KIU Kansanga as a host venue per the fixture. Lugogo, YMCA and UCU (Mukono) are the other venues for the games.

Oilers Braced For Tough Marathon

City Oilers have been handed a compact schedule in a bid to create room for the side to leave for their debut season at the prestigious Basketball Africa League.

They play their NBL opening game on March 17 against KIU Titans before ending their first round campaign on April 16 against Ndejje University.

And that’s a period of 30 days, meaning that the Oilers will be in action at least every after three days, on average!

The Oilers were pitted in the Nile Conference group of the BAL – The group will take place in Cairo due April 26 – May 27.

They will compete with Al Ahly (Egypt), Cape Town Tigers (South Africa), Petro De Luanda (Angola), CFV Beira (Mozambique) and SLAC (Guinea).
