Perfect Start For KIU Rangers

KIU Rangers eased past Angels to get off the mark in their opening game of the Women National Basketball League at Lugogo.

The Rangers led 25-16 after the first quarter, and never looked back from there after before clinching a 24-point game.

Mary Amaniyo, a student at St Mary’s Kitende, led the scoring chats with 16 points while Sharon Kirabo and Diana Letaru had 12 points each.

Rachael Nanyonga who joined from Magic Stormers, scored 11 points on her Rangers league debut.

Besides Fildauce Namuleme, all Rangers players were on scoresheet including new signings Stella Nanfuka, Brenda Ayere and Shadiah Mbwali.

It’s a good start to the season for Coach Rogers Sserunyigo who saw his side fall to eventual champions UCU Lady Canons in the semis last year.

Catherine Amusugut and Elizabeth Agut scored 15 and 10 points respectively for Angels.

The side struggled in the game throughout having trailed from the word go until the final buzzer.

They were out-rebounded 58-41 on an evening they committed 32 turnovers.
