Ndejje University Angels handed UCU Canons a 64-55 defeat on Wednesday in the National Basketball League at Lugogo.

The victory stretches Ndejje’s perfect start to two wins from as many games having beaten KCCA Panthers on Sunday.

It was a closely contested affair, tied 13-13 after the first quarter and Ndejje later led by just a point (39-38) going into the last quarter.

It was tied midway through the fourth, but Ndejje outlasted UCU 19-10 down the stretch.

Marshel Okech owned the evening with a game-high 24 points on 6-of-17 shooting to help Ndejje who were without gifted point guard Harold Arinaitwe.

Joseph Kumbai scored 8 points and 12 rebounds while Bolton Rujumba added 9 points.

For the Canons, Peter Sifuma had a double double of 18 points and as many rebounds, Kevin Kasobya added 12 points.

It was a poor start for coach Nicholas Natuhereza’s side who beat Ndejje in both games of the regular season 86-77 and 89-76.

But the Canons are expected to struggle especially in the opening phase of the first round having lost some good players like Fayed Bbaale and Titus Lual who moved to City Oilers.

They uncharacteristically turned over the ball 42 times while the bench fetched just 14 points.

For Ndejje, they were industrious throughout the contest and swarmed at UCU at every opportunity.

And this good start will leave coach John Omondi buoyant and will fancy his chances to earn a playoff spot this season.

Ndejje finished 10th last season, just above the relegation zone, and two places outside the top 8 for playoffs.
