Power managed to hold off KCCA Panthers in a thrilling National Basketball League game on Wednesday at Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Power however needed overtime on the night to win 84-80.

Leading by nine points inside the fourth quarter, Power looked on course for a comfortable victory.

But KCCA Panthers fought back down the stretch, with Martin Buluma laying up with about five seconds on the clock to tie the game 74-74.

Power coach Timothy Odeke called for a timeout to design a game-winning play, but Guellord Mobanza’s three-point jumper rimmed out, to necessitate timeout.

Power made amends and started the five-minute timeout period with a 8-0 run, and KCCA never recovered despite finishing the period with a 2-6 run.

Isaac Afidra led the way for Power, with the veteran scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Samad Imran (16), Mobanza (14), Elvis Sentongo (13) and Stephen Otoa (12) reached double figures.

Besides Buluma who scored a game high 26 points, no KCCA Panthers player scored more than 9 points.

Power out-rebounded KCCA 72-54 despite making 30 turnovers.

The 84-80 win is the fourth for Power in 10 games this season having beaten Rezlife Saints, Ndejje University Angels and JKL Dolphins earlier.

The loss, is the sixth for KCCA Panthers in 10 games, with Brian Wathum’s side having won four games as well.

In the first game, UCU Lady Canons beat Nabisunsa Girls 93-40 to collect their eighth win in 10 games.

Aziida Nabayunga scored a 19-point and 12-rebound double double for Coach Nicholas Natuhereza’s side.
