Zaina Namuleme’s crucial goal secured a 1-0 victory for Kampala Queens against UCU Lady Cardinals in a FUFA Women Super League match held at Lugogo on a Sunday morning.
The captain capitalized on a defensive mistake from UCU, scoring at the stroke of half-time from a corner that they failed to clear.
This win propelled Kampala Queens to the top of the league with seven points, tied with second-placed Kawempe Muslim, maintaining an unbeaten run after three games this season.
The victory was much-needed for Kampala Queens after a previous game where they squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Makerere University.
Despite dominating the opening minutes, KQ had to wait until the 45th minute for their breakthrough, with captain Namuleme seizing the opportunity to score against goalkeeper Hadija Nalongo.
In the second half, the hosts dominated but felt unlucky not to score more, with missed opportunities from Elizabeth Nakigozi, Fazila Ikwaput, and Shamirah Nalugya.
On the other hand, UCU struggled to pose a threat, continuing their poor form and remaining winless this season after suffering a second defeat and securing only one point.
