Vipers SC midfielder Abdu Karim Watambala has received a late call-up to join the Uganda Cranes squad for their upcoming international friendly matches against Comoros and Ghana.

The matches are scheduled to take place on March 22nd and March 26th, 2024, respectively, and will be held in Morocco.

Watambala’s inclusion comes as a replacement for the injured Bobosi Byaruhanga, who has been ruled out of both fixtures.

The midfielder’s impressive performances for Vipers SC in the local scene have earned him a spot in the national team once again.

Earlier, FUFA confirmed that the Uganda Cranes will be without the services of Captain Khalid Aucho and Abdul Aziizi Kayondo, who were initially called but are sidelined due to injuries.

Allan Kyambadde will also miss the games after picking an ankle injury with his Egyptian club El Dakhelya.

In addition to Watambala’s call-up, Charlton Athletic FC defender Nathan Asiimwe George, who plies his trade in England, was recently summoned to the squad.

The friendly matches against Comoros and Ghana will serve as preparation for the Uganda Cranes ahead of a demanding international schedule this year.

With AFCON 2025 qualifiers and the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on the horizon, these matches will provide valuable experience and allow the team to fine-tune their tactics and strategies.
