Preview: Vipers Out To Keep Title Chase Alive

Vipers are determined to keep their title chase alive as they prepare to host KCCA in what promises to be an electrifying Uganda Premier League encounter at Kitende under the floodlights.

This match-up brings together two of the league’s top teams over the past five seasons or more.

Currently, Vipers are in a favorable position to contend for the league title, way more than KCCA.

They currently sit in fourth place with 35 points, trailing the leaders Kitara by eight points. However, Kitara have played three more games than Vipers.

And if Vipers can capitalize on their three games in hand, including Friday’s crucial fixture against KCCA, they could potentially leapfrog Kitara and claim the league summit, provided other BUL results go their way.

Vipers will however understand the importance of taking each game as it comes. Their recent 4-0 victory over Wakiso Giants at Kitende marked the end of a two-game winless streak at home in the league, following draws against Gaddafi and Bright Stars.

The return of head coach Livingston Mbabazi, who missed the last two games due to illness amidst rumors of his dismissal, provides further stability to the team.

On the other hand, KCCA find themselves trailing Vipers by nine points, having played one more game.

They are aware that a loss against Vipers would widen the gap between them and their rivals.

While winning the league may seem improbable for KCCA at this point, denying Vipers points would be a significant result for them.

KCCA come into the match without top target-man Shaban Muhammad who is suspended.

It’s strong to note that Shaban’s brace and a goal from Usama Arafat ensured KCCA beat Vipers in the first round tie at Lugogo for their first win of the season.

Abubakar Lawal scored a late consolation for the Venoms.
