NEC and BUL battled to a 1-1 draw in the Stanbic Uganda Cup in a tightly contested semifinal matchup at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The result sees NEC secure a slight edge heading into the return leg where they will need at least a goalless draw to reach the final.

The game started with an early breakthrough from BUL, as Jeromy Kirya unleashed a stunning long-range strike in the 17th minute, leaving NEC goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan helpless as the ball found the top corner.

However, NEC responded strongly in the second half, with Joseph Dhata finding the equalizer just 10 minutes after the break. Dhata, set up by Cromwell Rwothomio, powered in to level the score.

The result mirrored their previous encounter at Njeru, where both teams settled for a 1-1 draw during the league’s first round last year.

The tie is delicately poised, unlike the other semifinal where Kitara beat Pajule Lions 3-1 in the first leg in Masindi.
