Onduparaka FC secured a crucial victory against Promotion-contenders Lugazi FC, winning 1-0 at the Greenlight Stadium in the Betpawa Big League.
Bernard Ndifuna emerged as the hero, netting a goal in the 40th minute to earn the Caterpillars three valuable points.
This win serves as sweet revenge for Onduparaka after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Lugazi FC in their previous encounter.
Under the leadership of Ahmed Borini, Onduparaka has successfully turned their season around in the second division, narrowing the gap on the top three promotion spots to just two points behind third-placed Lugazi FC, who have a game in hand.
Currently, Onduparaka trails leaders Police FC by six points and second-placed Kataka FC by three.
With five consecutive victories under their belt, Onduparaka is now eyeing instant qualification to the Uganda Premier League.
However, for Lugazi FC, this loss is a significant setback in their bid for promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history.
Struggling with inconsistency in the second half of the season, Lugazi FC has only managed to gather four points from their last five matches, including one win, a draw, and three defeats.
In the league standings, Onduparaka moves up to 5th place with 38 points from 23 matches, while Lugazi FC holds the 3rd position with 40 points from 22 matches.
Looking ahead, Onduparaka will face Booma FC at the Greenlight Stadium on Sunday, May 12th, while Lugazi FC is set to host Kataka FC at the Lugazi FC Stadium Najjembe on May 5th.
