Uganda Cup: Kitara To Play NEC In The Final

Masindi-based Uganda Premier League (UPL) side Kitara beat Northern Regional League entity Pajule Lions over two legs to progress to the Stanbic Uganda Cup final.

The Royals will play in the final of the 50th edition of the League Cup – their first time ever to reach such a feat.

In Pader, Brian Ahebwa scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute, and it was just enough to help Kitara progress on a 4-1 aggregate.

Kitara had won 3-1 in the first leg, courtesy of goals from Solomon Okwalinga, Denis Omedi and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye.

Kitara will now face fellow UPL newcomers and title rivals NEC in the final. NEC beat one-time winners BUL to reach the final.

The Royals still have a realistic chance to clinch the 2023/24 season’s double, as they’re still in realistic contention for the UPL title as well.

Kitara are second on the 16-team UPL table with 48 points, just one below current leaders BUL (49), and two more than third placed Vipers (46) who are also.tje defending champions.
