StarTimes Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC had its TV show hit the airwaves with aplomb on Sunday.
The pilot episode premiered at 10pm on Sanyuka TV – The official broadcasting TV of the UPL.
There were many takeaways and talking points in the first episode which set a good platform for what promises to be a good ride.
Spoiler alert – No word from Coach Mike Mutebi, administrator or sponsor.
Review Of The Season
KCCA FC head of communications Moses Magero – clad in his trademark suits – got the show underway and there was no anywhere to start from other than a review of the season.
Magero who kept on pressing his tab and repeatedly mentioning ‘football club’ which is a bore in my opinion, painted a clear picture of KCCA’s performance in both the FUFA Juniors League and UPL in the season which was ended by FUFA.
A couple of highlights were shown, depicting how the season unfolded before Magero who reminded the audience that KCCA is yet to win a Juniors league title, ended on a good note that KCCA will be representing Uganda in CAF Confederation cup and there is still chance for a title this season if Uganda Cup goes on.

Fan Zone
A section where fans air out their views and at one point, I was like why don’t they bring our Jalia Namuswe and Abdulhamid Petanguli. Oh no, they didn’t.
Kasenfe John Fischer who is the Fans chairman started on a wrong note when he wrongly said that they are the champions. Really? I thought it’s Vipers. Anyway. Its a fans corner. He talked about the big names they lost before the season like Kaddu, Awany and Kyambadde and failure to make right replacements. He made his biggest point at the end where he talked about and poor state of the stadium.
Max Nanyondo, the usual suspect couldn’t miss the screen as well. As expected, she revealed how KCCA would have won the league if it was not ended. Expressed her delight with winning the CECAFA and criticised the referees for a poor show against Ndejje. Very typical Max.
Sophie Najjemba, vice president fans committee popped up in dark shades – “We had lots of expectations,” she started, and later picked that Odumegwu goal at Luzira against Maroons as the goal she will live to remember. She also named Gift Ali and Herbert Achai as the standout players of the season despite facing fans wrath initially.
Kassim Kyazze, it wasnt going to be a show without him. Surely. And his script was well written. Unlike the other four, Kyazze was filmed at his home not at the stadium. He reminded everyone that he started supporting KCCA since he was 15 Years, narrated that whole journey to Rwanda for CECAFA and how mesmerizing was Sserwadda’s goal. He also reminded us that moment when KCCA left coach Mike Mutebi behind for the Mbarara game.

Magero took us back again to the team’s last game – a Uganda Cup fixture against Kitara where Juniors League player Mwanje Elvis made his debut and picked various positives as well, including goalkeeper Ali Mwirusi making an appearance and so on.
How KCCA FC technical team is keeping in touch with the players during this lockdown and also a special mention of Hassan Jurua who missed the whole season.
John Revita
The one interview every fan was waiting for, and yes, it was filmed Revita’s home. Good. good moments seeing the defender sharing a moment with his daughter.
“I knew it was a big task to join KCCA,” the pony tailed Revita said. “The players welcomed me. The club has branded me and pushed me on bigger platforms.”
“Despite the league ending prematurely, I had good moments including winning the Super cup. The coaches have added a lot on my game and I have got many friends and fans. I have managed to help the National team qualify to Chan and we also won Cecafa.”
The injured former Express player said that he is using the lockdown to bond with his family and revealed that his many dreams include going out and play professional football elsewhere. KCCA have you heard? Ouch.
A word with a legend
Tom Lwanga, yes it had ti be him. In his remarks, he started with how he helped KCC earn promotion to the Super League (read StarTimes UPL) in who also played 1974.
He added: “It was after that game a certain KCCA fan who was a student of Kyambogo then designed the current KCCA FC logo.”
He reserved time to explain the features of the logo and why KCCA is playing in yellow in reference to Brazil team.
“Even the tik tak football started long ago in 74,” he bossed as he was interviewed by Moses Magero.
Jimmy Kirunda Tribute
“On behalf of KCCA players, we never saw you play but we heard all of the good stories. A good player and legend. May your legacy live on and your soul rest in place. Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago sent out the strong message.
Then after a farewell tribute popped on the screen, that took about five seconds. Not a perfect send off in my opinion, I expected something big and better.
Mustafa Kizza
Next on the menu was left back Mustafa Kizza, hope we are not seeing him for the last time. Will he be a KCCA player next season? We will reach to that later on.
As everyone was anxiously waiting for what the roving left back was going to say, and damn, its an archived video. From the 2018/19 season, a feature story voiced by Next media’s Grace Lindsay Mbabazi. But we wanted something fresh. Ah.
Anyway, in his words, he narrated his beginnings as a goalkeeper and bla bla bla…its old, after all.
The ending
After Magero gave his closing remarks, the show was ended by none other than Kassim Kyazze singing a certain KCCA song with catching lyrics praising their coach – ” tulina coach nabawarabu bamutya….” Till next Sunday.
