Defending Champions and record holders Gomba registered their first win in the ongoing 2021 Masaza Cup tournament thanks to a 3-1 victory over Kabula on Monday.

Gomba, coming into this game, had lost their opener against Kyadondo on Saturday and they did just enough to get off the mark on Monday at Njeru.

Goals from Daniel Nyanzi, Brian Aniku and Abasi Kyeyune Diaz ensured that Ibrahim Kirya’s charges bagged all the three points on the day.

Substitute Rashid Mutebi scored late in the game for Kabula as they lost their second successive game in group.

The opening exhanges saw a closely contested affair as both teams tried to settle into the game, with Kabula proving to be a more resilient side than they did in their 5-2 loss to Buluuli on Sunday.

However, in the 17th minute, Nyanzi broke the deadlock scoring from a direct free to put Gomba ahead and his goal was the only difference before the interval.

At restart of the second half, Gomba were dominant and it wasn’t a surprise they added two more goals to put the game far beyond Kabula’s reach.

In the 54th minute, Aniku made it three tapping in home off a pass from skillful winger Abasi Kyeyune.

Six minutes later, , Kyeyune, who was brilliant on the day got one on his name and it was a beauty. He made a sole run at the left flank, beat his defenders for dead before firing into the left top corner of the net.

Later in the dying minutes, off the bench, Mutebi pulled one goal back as he scored from the spot but his strike was just a consolation.

The result saw Gomba get off the mark as they register their first win this year’s Tournament. They had lost 2-0 to Kyadondo in their opener last Saturday.

For Kabula, they suffer a second loss and have conceded the most goals so far in the group (8).
