Najjuma, Jannon To Beef Up Gazelles As Team Enters Residential Camp

The National Women basketball team, the Gazelles, will be boosted by the additional of two foreign-based players.

Centre Maria Najjuma and Guard Jannon Otto will be jetting in the country on February 12, for the Zone Five Championships due February 14-19 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Youngster Najjuma, 19, is an aggressive big man who represented Uganda at the 2019 U16 Zone Five in Rwanda and named on the best team of the tournament.

She is a former Javon Ladies player and was summoned to join the NBA Affica Academy last year.

Otto, born United States, has been naturalized to represent Uganda.

She has played for UC Riverside (College), Oak Hills (High School), Rockhampton (Australia) and currently features for Musel Pikes (Luxembourg) where she is averaging 20 points per game this season.

The team, will on Tuesday, enter residential camp at Onoma Hotel after a morning practice session at Lugogo Indoor.

Gazelles practice match on Sunday:

Four players Angellah Namirimu (KCCA), Moreen Amoding (JT Lady Jaguars), Sarah Namale (Nabisunsa) and Rebecca Susan Aanyu (KCCA) have been released.

Five Countries – Egypt, Rwanda, South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda – will take part in the five-team round robin tournament.

The top team (Champion) will qualify for the Women Afrobasket in Rwanda in July.
