KCCA Leopards started their season with a bang after a deserved win over JKL Lady Dolphins in the National Basketball League encounter on Friday at Lugogo.

The Dolphins failed to replicate their performance from last Sunday against UCU Lady Canons, and the defeat was just inevitable.

Ruth Atuheire led the way with 15 points and 8 rebounds as KCCA put up a commanding show.

Peace Nakirijja, playing for the first time since 2019 when she left JKL, was also outstanding for the Leopards with 13 points after shooting 3-of-6 from three.

Martha Soigi had 9 points and 11 rebounds, Linda Martha Nakalembe collected 10 points. The other New signings like Faridah Kadondi made her debut while Joy Chemutai was unused substitute.

KCCA quickly got out of the blocks to lead 16-08 after the first quarter, but the Dolphins cut the deficit to three points at halftime (29-32).

KCCA, under new coach Fitzgarald Miller, returned stronger and outscored JKL in the second half 31-29 to win the overall game by five points.

They defended tirelessly, including denying Brenda Ekone open lanes to make her runs, and she consequently finished with 10 points.

Hope Akello managed 16 points and 9 rebounds, Flavia Oketcho scored 10 points while Becky Longom had 14 rebounds.

It’s loss number one for JKL after two games, for a side that didn’t lose a game last season until the final series.
