Uganda’s U19 Boys Cricket team, the Baby Cricket Cranes, struggled with the bat continued despite picking up a 7-wicket win over Tanzania in their third game at the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers ongoing in Dar es Salaam.
Emmanuel Isaneez’s boys had with the ball made light work of the hosts on Wednesday. Coming off another impressive bowling display against Nigeria on Tuesday, the Baby Cricket Cranes who fielded first bundled out Tanzania with 25 Overs to spare.
Joseph Baguma was once again the man that led this attack. The 17-year-old bagged six wickets, but his standout performance was overshadowed by Uganda’s inability to find runs.
Baguma who is now the leading wicket taker (9) at this tourney, and Yunusu Sowobi (3) let Tanzania put on board only 48 runs (the lowest score in the competition thus far) but a below par display with the bat, similar to that against Nigeria almost cost Uganda the game.
It took Tanzania five Overs to find their first wicket, but once they did, they made things very uncomfortable for the Ugandan camp. Only Gerald Olipa (14) and Ronald Omara (15) had double digit scores.
Hamza Ally Onai bowled just 3.5 Overs for Tanzania, but picked 3 wickets while conceding only four runs.
Uganda eventually won the game, but it did little in improving their run rate. This result keeps Uganda level on points with Namibia, but with a far inferior net run rate.
Namibia convincingly beat Kenya by 7 wickets, and they stay top of the table ahead of their game against Sierra Leone on Thursday.
Uganda will take a break, and return to action on Friday against Kenya.
