Preview: Vipers Eye League Summit

Vipers will hope to go top of the Uganda Premier League table as they host Maroons at Kitende under the floodlights.

The Venoms trail leaders BUL by just one point, with BUL having played an additional game.

Last week’s victory over former leaders Kitara has put Vipers in a favorable position in the title chase.

They had to defy odds in a chaotic game in Masindi against a side that had eliminated them out of the Uganda Cup.

That game was watched by Club President Dr Lawerence Mulindwa, a move that showed how serious the club wants to defend this year’s league title.

SC Villa’s draw against Bright Stars that denied them a chance to narrow the gap on the leaders, further pushed the title in Vipers’ favour.

With three tough ties against BUL, NEC and Relegation chasers Busoga United still to come, Vipers will be hoping to capitalise on home fixtures.

With no margin for error, each game is crucial for Vipers, who must approach them as if they were finals.

Maroons, currently seventh in the table, face less pressure as they are no longer in danger of relegation.

Club Captain Ronald Orombi said that they don’t fear Vipers and are ready to put up a fight.
