Betway Power Extends Support To Wheelchair Basketball Team

National Basketball League five time champions Betway Power, in conjunction with their headline sponsor Betway Uganda, have extended a helping hand to a Wheelchair basketball side.

Power have donated equipment – jerseys, tracksuits and balls – worth Sh5M to Gulu wheelchair team.

The short event was held on Friday afternoon at Indoor Arena in Lugogo with Betway Power players, officials, Betway officials, Gulu hawks team and members of the press present.

“We couldn’t do this without our sponsors Betway,” started Power president Patrick Obalim. “As power basketball, we believe in such good initiatives to develop the sports through helping those ones in need and continue to work together as a team to achieve the desired goals.”

Gulu Wheel chair basketball team are set to take part in a championship in Mpigi that starts on September 24 and will visit Kenya in October for another championship.

Acaye Paul who is the sports coach, commended the soft heart of Betway and Power club.

He noted:

“We would like to thank Betway Power for their dedication, attention and open-minded thinking and for your readiness to help with very prompt response to requests.”

“We hope that these kits make us look like a professional team.”

Acaye added that the team still struggles financially especially to handle transport fares among others.

The club also received 5000 dollars last year from USA company Blaze Sports.

Betway head of communication and marketing Clive Kyazze said that money from the recent Community Shield campaign contributed to the success of the CSR.

“Betway held a campaign during the Community Shield weekend where 1K off every bet was supposed to be donated to a sports Charity,” said Kyazze. “We are proud to announce that UGX5M was collected and together with Betway Power Basketball Club, we donated it to Gulu Wheelchair Basketball Association through equipment like playing Jerseys, tracksuits, balls and training kits.”
