Heads of Sports Federations in the country have been advised to be transparent and accountable in their public offices.

This, was during National Sports Forum where the new state Minister for Sports Hamson Obua met all the National Federation (Association) heads in an event held on Wednesday at Copper Chimney, Lugogo.

Delivering what he termed as the five performance expectations required by Minister of Sports and Education, Obua cautioned the heads on Corruption and asked them to be more result and action oriented.

“You must be transparent and have accountability in your public offices,” Obua advised. “We will have Zero tolerance on corruption as no one is above the law.”

Sports in the country is littered with corrupt officials and its one of the big task the new Minister will have to tackle. Bribes and poor use of funds are a big concern.

“You also have to be creative and innovative, ensure team work within and outside the Federations and also have stability within the Federation.

“You must set targets and ensure that you can reach them. Then also, try to assemble a strong team that will stand a test of time and represent Uganda respectably.”

Obua also asked the Federations to sort out their internal wrangles. “Don’t drag me into your issues, let me handle what am mandated.”

He advised them not to look only at government for funding, and asked them to look for corporate sponsors. He pledged to visit every Federation one by one.

FUFA President Moses Magogo requested other associations to pick a leaf from the FUFA Drum that has been a success since its little history.

FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi asked the Minister to put in place an Arena to aid indoor sports like Basketball, Netball among others.
