Mutebi Sets Targets After Penning Two-year Deal at AS Kigali

Coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has set targets with AS Kigali after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Rwandan side.

Mutebi was unveiled on Wednesday to end his short sabbatical ever since parting ways with the KCCA FC in March last year.

At AS Kigali, he will be deputised by fellow Ugandan and KCCA FC legend Jackson Mayanja.

When asked about his ambitions at the club, Mutebi firmly confirmed that he wants to compete for the tittle.

“We have a better team which can compete for the title, we are third on the table and if we compete well we can win trophies because we don’t want to participate but to compete,” said Mutebi.

Mutebi and Mayanja both watched AS Kigali’s 2-1 win away to Bugesera on Wednesday before the official unveiling.

Mutebi added: “The team is in good shape, there is mentality and that shows that they always want to fight and win games and are ready to compete.”

“I have faced team AS Kigali with KCCA FC and I loved the way they play so it gives me confidence to coach them and with the help of Jackson Mayanja we have a lot to achieve. I worked with Mayanja at KCCA and also played with him.”

At AS Kigali, Mike Mutebi will find a common face in Dennis Rukundo who was his player at KCCA FC.

AS Kigali sit third on the Rwanda premier League table with 23 points just four points below table leaders APR FC.

AS Kigali has won the Rwandan Cup two times and the Rwandan Super Cup two times.
