Patrick Jonah Kakande scored late to help SC Villa edge Busoga United in a league game at Wankulukuku.

The youngster, who came on for Goffin Oyirwoth in the 65th minute, sent in a rocket with five minutes on the clock to send the home fans in wild celebrations.

It is a hard result on Busoga United who were the better side on the day but will rue missed opportunities.

For Villa, the move to 10 points and close the gap to just a point below leaders BUL FC after five matches.

Before the goal, it looked like both sides were settling for a point in what had turned out to be an odourless affair.

SC Villa barely threatened especially in the first stanza were they were non existent and struggled to retain possession in the Midfield where they missed lanky midfielder Ivan Sserubiri.

Joseph Kafumbe, deployed in the middle of the park, got Villa’s best chance midway through the game but fired over and wide with a goal at his mercy.

And the decisive moment arrived in the 85th minute when Ivan Bogere picked Kakande, a player from Masaza (Bulemeezi) who beat a defender before finding the bottom corner with a fierce shot.

The Visitors had looked dominant for extended stretches and had threatened in opening exchanges through right winger Peter Onzima but with no success.

Onzima laid it on the plate for Dickson Niwamanya but the forward was slow and missed a good chance early in the game.

Onzima later fluffed a keeper-to-beat chance when he skewed off the mark in one of some good chances they wasted.

It’s now tough times for Busoga United who have lost three in a row, and recently had coach Paul Kiwanuka throw in a towel after that loss against URA FC.
