In a gripping Uganda Premier League clash at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL staged a remarkable comeback to secure a hard-fought victory over Bright Stars after initially trailing by a goal at halftime.
The match, characterized by intense action and dramatic twists, saw the visitors taking an early lead through Shafik Kakande’s clinical finish, courtesy of an assist from Issa Bugembe.
However, BUL displayed resilience and determination, rallying back in the second half to turn the tide in their favor.
Walter Ochora ignited their resurgence with a well-timed header, capitalizing on a precise free kick delivered by Jerome Kirya just nine minutes into the second period.
The defining moment arrived in the 69th minute when BUL seized the lead, courtesy of a lapse in concentration from Bright Stars’ goalkeeper Hassan Matovu. Matovu’s error, compounded by Issa Bugembe’s initial loss of possession to goal-scorer Kirya, allowed BUL to capitalize on the opportunity, ultimately clinching the victory.
With this crucial win, BUL tightened their grip at the summit of the Uganda Premier League standings, amassing 37 points and establishing a five-point lead over second-placed Kitara.
The victory also marked a significant turnaround for BUL, breaking their winless streak of three league games, including a previous goalless draw against KCCA FC.
In contrast, Bright Stars, despite their spirited performance, found themselves unable to secure a positive result, remaining in the ninth position with 21 points from 17 games.
The outcome also signaled BUL’s completion of a league double over Bright Stars, having previously secured a 1-0 victory in the first round encounter at Kavumba.
