In a fiercely contested match at Lugogo Stadium, Kitara FC faced a major setback in their quest for the title as they fell 1-0 to NEC.

The game’s sole goal came from Cromwell Rwothomio, who headed in a lofty cross from Joseph Dhata in the 64th minute, with the ball taking a deflection off Kitara captain Maxwell Owachgiu.

But the goal sparked controversy among Kitara players who argued that the ball had gone out of play before Rwothomio headed in.

The match was filled with contentious moments, including an incident where Jasper Aheebwa of Kitara received only a yellow card despite being the last man when he brought down Rashid Okocha of NEC.

Another dramatic moment arrived in the 88th minute when Kitara’s hopes of equalizing were dashed when George Ssenkaaba’s goal was wrongly ruled offside.

Despite the loss, Kitara remains atop the standings with 44 points, but their lead has narrowed to four points above SC Villa, who have played two games less.

BUL and NEC are now level on 40 points just like SC Villa, closely trailing Kitara.

Meanwhile, Vipers SC sits in fifth place with 38 points but has played three games fewer than Kitara.
