SC Villa missed a golden opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the table after being held to a 1-1 draw by a resilient Busoga United side in a highly anticipated league clash at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Despite dominating proceedings for much of the game, SC Villa squandered several scoring opportunities, leaving them to rue missed chances as Busoga United fought back to secure a crucial point.

The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when Charles Lwanga capitalized on a well-executed play by Abasi Kyeyune to put SC Villa ahead.

However, their lead was later erased as Moses Logono struck a powerful left-footed shot in the 88th minute to level the scores for Busoga United.

Throughout the match, SC Villa displayed moments of attacking prowess, with Hakim Kiwanuka coming close to doubling the lead in the second half, only to be denied by a clearance off the line from Busoga United’s defense.

Lwanga failed to punish Busoga United after Stephen Odongo had lost possession in the box, Elvis Ngoonde headed wide off Jonah Kakande’s cross while Abasi Kyeyune bundled wide when he was unmarked at the far post before halftime.

Despite the setback, SC Villa now finds themselves joint second in the league standings alongside BUL, both on 40 points, trailing leaders Kitara by four points. Kitara’s face NEC at Lugogo later on in the evening.

Meanwhile, Busoga United’s spirited performance sees them climb out of the relegation zone, drawing level on 18 points with Gaddafi.
