UCU Canons fell short in their bid to defeat the KIU Titans, who secured a 50-48 victory in an intense match at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Despite UCU’s initial lead of eight points and their halftime advantage of 25-21, they were unable to maintain momentum.
In a gripping fourth quarter, Edgar Munaaba of the KIU Titans scored KIU Titans’ six opening points to level the game at 38-38, before propelling his team to a decisive 10-0 run.
Although UCU fought back, they missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer, with Jerry Kayanga’s three-point attempt falling short.
Notably, no UCU Canons player reached double digits, with Joel Kayiira and Jimmy Otim contributing 9 and 8 points respectively.
On the other hand, Mpiya Juf achieved a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Edgar Munaaba led the game with 18 points.
This victory marks the KIU Titans’ second win over the UCU Canons this season, having previously defeated them 83-52 in the first round fixture.
With this result, the Titans boast nine wins out of twelve games, while UCU’s record stands at seven wins and five losses for the season.
