Boxing: Squad For Africa Games Named, Muhangi Hard Done By NCS

Uganda Boxing Federation has on Monday announced the final squad of Eight Boxers to represent the country in All African games that start on 19th August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco.

The squad announced by the federation president Moses Muhangi at the press briefing held at UBF offices, Lugogo, consists of six male and two Females boxers.

Two officials have been included to make it 10 representatives.

However, there will be other two Ugandans curtsey of Internation Boxing Association (AIBA), these include President Muhangi as the Technical Officer and Kyiga Antonio who will be among the referees.

While speaking to the journalists, Muhangi assured Ugandans that they should expect medals because the team has been carefully selected by the technical committee.

“These athletes have been carefully selected, we want to assure ugandan that the team selected,i have high hopes into it and am sure they will bring medal for us as usual,” said Muhangi.

He however showed his disappointment to parties concerned over the numbers of Boxers taken as it was not the number expected.

“Its saddening and puts us in a very awkward position to select only eight bombers out of 20 which are supposed to make a full team.”

“National Olympic Committee and NCS say they don’t have money to support the whole full team, however much we tried to plead to them asking if they can give us a chance as federation to find money to facilitate our others boxers, they still denied saying that they have experienced such, claiming that there have always been complications from it.”

According to Muhangi, there will be a token of appreciation of at least Sh1M to each and every single boxer who will scoop any medal.
