Covid19: CAF Champions League Final Put On Hold

Football governing body in Africa, CAF, has put on hold the finals for Champions league and Confederation cup due to Covid19 pandemic.

The CAF Champions League finals were supposed to be played on May 29, 2020 at the Japoma Stadium in Cameroon.

The Confederation cup finals were scheduled on May 24, 2020 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Stadium in Morocco.

“Following the decision to postpone of the semi-finals of the CAF Interclubs competitions due to evolving nature of COVID-19, CAF today announces that the finals of the Total CAF Confederation Cup and Total CAF Champions League 2019/20 has been put on hold until further notice,” a statement on CAF website reads.

This year, CAF had ealier decided for one-match final for the two competitions unlike in the past when two finalists faced off home and away.

CAF has said that they will be communicating a new schedule in due time “after consultation with the various stakeholders.”

The semis were the first to be postponed: Al Ahly will face Wydad Casablanca while Raja Casablanca and Zamalek will go head to head in the other Champions league semi
