Former Uganda Cranes star Frank Kyazze has expressed his willingness to forward the cries of the Ex Internationals in Parliament come 2021.
Kyazze joins a long list of sportsmen eyeing political seats in the forthcoming 2021 Elections in Uganda.
Kyazze will be contesting for the Makindye Municipality seat in the Parliament.
The Parliament has powers to make laws on any matter “for peace, order, development and good governance of Uganda.”
“In the 70s and 80s, we normally played for honour not money as it is now where players get lucrative deals and get paid huge sums of money,” Kyazze who featured for KCCA and SC Villa among others.
“Many players who played during our generation are living a sorry state, but if sportsmen can get a strong voice especially in Parliament, something can be done.
“Personally, I am standing for MP Makindye Municipality and I think I can use this platform to bring all sportsmen together and we see how we can lobby support.”
Many Ex Internationals have come out to seek for financial support and recognition and FUFA has been at the receiving end of negative reviews for ‘neglecting’ the former stars.
Former Cranes captain Jimmy Kirunda’s death recently was a big eye opener while other Ex players including Willy Kyambadde, Andrew Fimbo Mukasa, Obadiah Ssemakula have a stir on social media and other platforms.
Kyazze believes that entering Parliament will provide him with easy means to advocate for the needs of the former Sportsmen.
“The President recently put aside funds to pay some sportsmen that have excelled but they don’t have not got that money because no one is caring to make a followup,” Kyazze added.
“I have played Football to a greater level, and there is no way I can forget all those people we went through the same struggle.
“At the moment, there are many players that I am looking after, my friend David Lumansi (Sports Journalist) is the one who always gives me updates about the players’ welfare and I support accordingly.”
Kyazze says that he has been helping the Ex players on a personal level, but its now time to make it formal and forward their cries to government so that they are helped on a large scale and given the respect they deserve.
He added that many countries have been known partly because of talent development something which Uganda should borrow a leaf.
“We can market our country through talent promotion and it’s easy to promote, build and develop our nation after reaching a certain level in talent development,” he added.
Kyazze, born in Nkoni Masaka in December 1959, was part of the Uganda Cranes team at the 1985 CECAFA tournament and has always bossed about holding the record for scoring the most headed goals in Ugandan football.
He won two league titles with KCCA (1983, 1985), one with SC Villa (1982). He was the league top scorer in 1984 and 1985 and won a three Uganda Cups (2 with KCCA and one with Coffee).
