Uganda Cranes: Ochaya Joins Training At Kitende

Uganda Cranes left back cum winger Joseph Benson Ochaya is the latest arrival as the side shifted base to St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The team has conducted a single session at the astro turf on Sunday Morning.

Ochaya returns to the fold after missing the previous Cranes AFCON Qualifier with South Sudan played in Kenya after accumulating two yellow cards.

He picked his second after a foul on Peter Manyang in the 83rd minute during the home game at Kitende as Cranes laboured to a Halid Lwaliwa late header.

Against the crucial Burkina Faso tie on Wednesday, March 24, the TP Mazembe defender will be expected to start at left back.

The Cranes have suffered two blows already – Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru (Pulled Out) and Khalid Aucho (dismissed) will miss the coming games.

Cranes coach Abdallah Mubiru said on Saturday that no replacements will be added on the team despite going two players short.

Mubiru said: “There is no time to add on other players, like I said before, Aucho was not going to participate in the first game (suspension for red card), and yes we had a replacement already, still we have replacements going forward in the initial squad of 31.”

“Some players may get injuries, Covid19, and those that may pull out during the last minute. We called many players (with that in mind) and we are not losing any focus. We are just praying that all goes as planned.”

The coach also stressed that the players “have showed hunger” and are ready to conquer the team’s target of winning both games.

Moses Waiswa has reportedly jetted in today.

After that disappointing double header against South Sudan in November last year headlined by a Tito Okello strike, Uganda will seek to make amends this time round.

They need two points from the remaining two games to return to AFCON Finals for the third consecutive appearance.
