UPDF, KCCA Share Spoils At Bombo

The rescheduled match between UPDF and KCCA that was abandoned in the 9th minutes on Wednesday resumed today (Thursday 20th May) and ended in a 1-1 draw.

Brian Kayanja’s penalty gave the hosts the lead but Julius Poloto drew the visitors level at the stroke of halftime.

The hosts started on the front foot but Brian Kalumba shot side after collecting from Eseru Robert.

At the other end, Denis Iguma beat his marker to head wide from a Poloto corner.

Kayanja gave the Army side the lead on 21 minutes after Gift Ali was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Sadat Anaku sent his free-kick wide after Sam Senyonjo was fouled by Bernard Muwanga as KCCA pressed for a leveller.

Peter Magambo rose highest to meet a Mugume Ashraf cross in the box but his header went over.

With 2 minutes into the added time at the end of the first half, Poloto received a ball from Ali, nutmugged on rushing Vuni Joseph before bending the ball into the far post for 1-1.

In the second half, both side went for the kill but could not find a way through.

Charles Lukwago made a smart save with his legs in a one-on-one with substitute Alex Kitata.

In the 91st minutes Charles Lwanga thought he had won it for the Visitors but his half volley was excellently tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Waswa Yusuf.

UPDF now sits 7th on the standings with 34 points while KCCA stays 4th with 42 points.

Up next for them, UPDF travels away to URA on Sunday while KCCA will host Busoga United the day before.
