Express football club head coach Wasswa Bbosa has attributed his side’s maiden CECAFA Kagame Cup triumph to teamwork more than anything else.
This he said while addressing the media in the aftermath of their magnificent final against Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets FC to subsequently claim the regional championship.
The Red Eagles won the game 1-0 courtesy of a 22nd minute strike from Martin Kizza following an assist from Eric Kambale.
The lone goal was sufficient enough to ensure that they shrugged off the extra-time worries and register their second trophy in a period of two months.
“The team was already bonding at the time we came here but still required match fitness. Game improvement helped us a lot along this journey since everyone (players, secretariat and technical team) put in a shift.” Bbosa told the media.
“I’m happy we won the Kagame Cup and on a personal level, overjoyed because it’s my second time with Express FC in this tournament and it’s also good for my career.”
Following this success achieved in Tanzania, Bbosa’s side now have their sights set on the Uganda Cup semi-finals that are scheduled to commence on August 15th 2021.
They are currently the reigning Uganda Premier League Champions and are set to represent Uganda in the Caf Champions League first Preliminary round game against El Merreikh.
The success comes after falling short on two finals during the 1994 and 1995 tournaments and ultimately joins the elite class with SC Villa, Police FC and KCCA FC to become the fourth Ugandan team to win the tournament.
