Women Football: Lady Doves Boost Technical Bench

Lady Doves WFC have boosted their technical bench with the addition of Uganda Women U17 head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi ahead of the forthcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers.

These qualifiers are scheduled to be held in Nairobi, Kenya between 28th August to 9th September 2021.

This appointment of the Kawempe ladies team head coach together with two others is meant to be on a temporary basis as the side looks at guidance through the inaugural CAF Champions League competition.

The two other coaches joining his technical bench include: Proline FC goalkeeping coach Byuma Muwada and Uganda Martyrs High Rubaga head coach Rogers Nkugwa who will serve as a match analyst.

Ayub comes with a massive history as regards Uganda Women football with a rich success story in terms if championships won with Kawempe Muslim ladies so no prizes for guessing his role in preparing for the continental adventure.

With the National team, Khalifa has also won the under17 COSAFA and CECAFA trophies in 2019 which tournaments were staged in Uganda and Mauritius respectively.

The team has however been training in a residential camp at Uganda Martyrs High school in Rubaga in preparation for the Upcoming CAF Women Champions League Zonal Qualifiers.

The Lady Doves have also since learnt their group opponents through the draws held on Friday in Kenya. They are pitted in Group A alongside Tanzania’s Simba Queens, Djibouti’s FAD FC and Burundi’s PVP FC Buyenzi.

They will be the first team in action in Group A in the opening match against Djibouti’s FAD FC on August 28th at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya at 4pm.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi finals and the eventual champions of this Championship will book a spot in the inaugural CAF Women Champions league to be held in Egypt, later this year.
