Uganda Cricket Cranes beat both Lesotho and Swaziland on Tuesday at IPRC grounds to move top of Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers Region tournament.

The triumph means Uganda has won four games from as many as previous victories against Rwanda and Malawi.

Cricket Cranes captain Deus Muhumuza noted on Tuesday: “The camp is excited, the energy is up and momentum is moving. We are still doing our basics right, of course there are still a few errors but all in its a good day for Uganda.”

Dinesh Nakrani picked six wickets to stroll through Lesotho attack as Uganda limited the side to just 26 runs all out.

Saud Islam (19) and Simon Sessazi (5) chased the target in 3 overs to win by 10 wickets with 98 balls remaining.

In the second match, another great fielding performance – Frank Nsubuga 3-9, Dinesh 3-13 and Bilal Hassan 2-6 – left Uganda needing 73 against Swaziland.

Despite a poor start headlined by a golden duck from Saudi Islam and Simon Ssesazi who was sent for early showers with just seven to his name, Uganda recovered from 10/2 to thanks to a patient knock from Kenneth Waiswa (17) and Dinesh Nakrani’s unbeaten 22 to win by six wickets with 47 balls remaining.

Next is a crucial fixture against Ghana on Thursday before closing the campaign with Seychelles on Friday.

Ghana are also on eight points like Uganda but the Cranes boss with a better net run rate.

Only one group winner (each from Group A and B) will qualify to join Nigeria and Kenya in the Regional Finals where one single ticket to the Global Qualifiers is up for grabs.
