Uganda Baseball and Softball Association has seen off one of its best players Isaac Odongo who heads to the United States for College in Texas but with sights on a fresh baseball journey.
The Association President Felix Okuye believes this latest achievement for the sport courtesy of the Dodgers Academy is the first of many to come.
“We expect Isaac to be our ambassodor to show that Uganda has a lot of talent in baseball,” said Okuye.
“This is one of our major targets as the federation to produce best baseballers and export them to the outside world to play in the best league in the world.”
At the age of 19 years, Odongo is arguably one of Uganda’s best baseball player, a pitcher at that and is just getting started.
The youngster got an Education Scholarship at St.ThomasUniversity in Houston where he goes to pursue his studies but also importantly a new lease of life in the baseball sport which has enabled him scale those heights
“This is a dream come true for me to Shwo the World my best baseball skills and believe me you am going to be a good ambassodor for Ugandan baseballers in the US,” Odong stated.
Odong’s latest journey has been enabled by the LA Dodgers academy that is camped at the AVRS school in Nakirebe.
“We have seen him grow and he has been improving day by day, We expect alot from him and we know he has the potential,” Coach Meddie Ssemakula.
To Uganda Baseball and softball association,this is a monumental achievement whose results will keep witnessing and will last years while improving the quality at home as kids struggle to scale the heights.
Previously Uganda has had a number of baseball players penetrate in the Japanese League including the likes of Allan Kabenge from Luwero, Kato Eric from Gayaza, Wafula Paul from Gayaza, Omeri Micheal from Soroti, Okello Bernard from Kyambogo, Emmanuel Mugaga and many more that have played in the Japanese Baseball League.
