Uganda Premier league side Bright Stars will kick start their Stanbic Uganda Cup campaign with a familiar tricky trip to Buganda Regional League side Free Stars FC on Monday.

The two teams will be meeting at the round of 64 as the 48th edition of the Uganda Cup continues.

Speaking ahead of the game, Bright Stars head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa expressed the team’s readiness and is optimistic they will get the three points on Monday.

“We are highly motivated for the game where our focus is to get the three points and qualify to the next round. You could see it from our training sessions, the players are ready to perform,” he told the club’s media.

“We want to perform better to reach the later stages of the tournament, so we need to come up tomorrow because we want to bring our confidence back and this is the right opportunity since we are playing a team from the lower division.”

In February 2020, Bright Stars were eliminated by the same side 4-3 on penalties at the round of 32, something Mugerwa says it’s now their turn for revenge.

“We remember that day, it was a sad day, so tomorrow it’s our turn to all go out for three points, our focus is to win the game”.

Bright Stars youngster Issa Bugembe and new signing Meddie Kyeyune are expected to make their debuts having made it to the match day squad for this contest.

Against a regional side, Bright Stars who are beaten finalists in 2019 will all go out in a search for a Perfect Start into this year’s tournament.
