Mbarara City Strengthens Squad with Three New Signings

Mbarara City FC has reinforced its lineup with three new additions as they up preparations for the upcoming Second Round of the Uganda Premier League.

The-SportsNation has learnt that Left back Sadiq Ssekyembe, forwards Pius Wangi and Benson Muhindo are the new signings as the club look to enhance their prospects for the remainder of the season.

Ssekyembe makes a return to the Uganda Premier League after departing Gaddafi at the conclusion of the previous season.

Ssekyembe previously tasted League and CECAFA Kagame Cup success with Express in 2019 under the guidance of coach Wasswa Bbosa, has now reunited with the gaffer at Mbarara City.

This marks the third collaboration between the defender and Bbosa, following their time together at Gaddafi last season.

Ssekyembe’s journey in Ugandan football top tier began when he joined Express from Katwe United in 2019.

Despite training with SC Villa this week, an agreement couldn’t be reached between the player and the club.

Muhindo arrives on the back of an impressive performance in the first round with Gaddafi FC, while Wangi, formerly associated with Vipers, returns to the Uganda Premier League after a stint with Rwanda’s Sunrise FC.

In a restructuring move, Mbarara City earlier let go of Jonnie Mugweri, Joel Abaliwano, Richard Wandyaka, Pius Kaggwa, and Jungu Methodius.

The Ankole Lions, currently positioned 11th in the league with 17 points, aspire to make a stronger push in the Second Round under the guidance of their strengthened squad.
