Basketball: ‘FUBA Fail To Meet Egypt Demands’, Friendly Called Off

Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has called off a friendly match between Uganda Silverbacks and Egyptian club Smouha.

The two sides were supposed to face off this Friday (May 17) and Sunday (May 19) at MTN arena in Lugogo.

The match, was intended to prepare the National team ahead of AFROCAN qualifiers (AFROBASKET for Men) which Uganda will host on June 26, later this year.

“Dear all, this is to notify you that the planned friendlies games against Egypt scheduled for this Friday and Sunday have been called off,” reads a message from FUBA head of Marketing Arnold Katabi seen by this website.

A close source to the Federation alleged that the Egyptian club had requested FUBA to cater for all the team’s expenses including travel and hotel fees, something that the Federation denied.

The Federation however remains silent on why the game was called off.

Friday has therefore been beefed up by a league match between KIU Titans and UCU Canons, to fill the void.

“And as for Sunday we intend to adjust the time and push the the games back to start at 1:00 PM thus having 3 and not 4 games,” Katabi added.

The developments elongates Silverbacks’ wait for a game since falling 92-79 to Rwanda in Lagos, in last year’s FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
