Victoria Pearls: Mbabazi Rues Missed Chances In Global Qualifiers Opener

Janet Mbabazi, the newly appointed Victoria Pearls captain admitted that her side did not make good use of their chances during their awful defeat to Scotland on Thursday in their opening game at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.

Mbabazi who was captaining a competitive match for the first time since her appointment as the team skipper three weeks ago, and her teammates endured a horrible loss at the hands of the European nation, losing by a whooping 109 runs.

The team bowlers did a commendable job taking the game to their opponents however, their fielding unit aided Scotland through their preposterous dropped catches and misfields.

Speaking after the game, Mbabazi did not shy away from pointing out the team’s undoing on Thursday.

“I think in our fielding section, we bowled a couple of loose balls, Scotland gave us so many chances that we did not take. I think we could’ve restricted them to less than 100 runs had we taken our chances.

“But going into the next game, that’s an area we are looking to improve on, make sure that we take every opportunity that every batter gives us.”

Having abetted Scotland in their innings, Uganda were asked to chase 161, but like their fielding, the batting unit was a no show. They collapsed in the 13th Over when they got bowled out for 52. Mbabazi says her side struggled with the pace.

“We also had a challenge facing the pace of their opening bowler. We are playing USA next, we will try to put up a fight in that game.”

The USA game will happen on Saturday, and like Mbabazi states, they will hope to bounce back and get their campaign back on track.
