Netball: Injury Scare In The She Cranes Camp

Lilian Ajio’s World Cup is in peril after suffering an injury, our reporter has learnt.

On Tuesday, June 25, Uganda’s senior national Netball team the She Cranes held their second training session at the Allen Vr Stanley Pavilion SS located in Nakirebe – Mpigi district.

The team is in preparations for the 2019 Netball World Cup due July 12-21 in Liverpool, England.

Goal Defender (GD) Ajio who plays at Prison Netball club on Tuesday didn’t train at all despite appearing at the venue.

Speaking to the head coach of the She Cranes Vincent Kiwanuka said that the acting captain is having a problem with her knee.

“Ajio is carrying an injury but we are hoping that she recovers in time for the World Cup,” Kiwanuka said.

Netball team training at Nakirebe

Another player is the experienced Rachael Nanyonga who got a shovel in the stomach by teammate Namuwaya Muhayimuna in a warm up match.

However, the NIC player later forced herself back on court to finish the game amidst signs of weakness.

The She cranes is expected to train at Nakirebe up to the first week of July as the side gears for the World Cup.

They team will play a friendly with the Men’s national team on Wednesday.

The side is expected to jet out of the country on July 5.
