Official: Uganda Cranes Striker Okwi Joins Egyptian Side

Ugandan striker Emmanuel Okwi has signed for Egyptian club Ittihad Alexandria.

The 26-year-old has been a free agent after his contract with Tanzanian side Simba SC expired.

The development ends all speculations that had linked him to Premier Soccer League (PSL) Kaiser Chiefs.

Okwi has signed a two-year contract, the club has confirmed.

“Club president Mohamed Mosselhi finalized the deal with Emmanuel Okwi Today and the Ugandan striker signed a two-year contract until 2021,” reads a translated statement from the club.

Okwi was leading scorer for the Cranes with two goals at 2019 AFCON before the side was eliminated by eventual finalists Senegal. He scored one each against DR Congo and Zimbabwe.

He is the latest of Cranes players who featured for the National team in 2019 AFCON to have acquired new teams.

Ittihad has never won the league but has won the domestic cup six times. It has the fourth largest number of fans in Egypt, after Al Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily.
